A branching narrative visual novel about a gay man in 1960s England

Cruise: Welcome
This was an attempt at creating a branching narrative, in which the player's choices had drastic effects on the plot. The protagonist is a closeted gay man in the 1960s who reaches a crossroads in his life. Will he stay with his wife or leave her to embrace gay life? Will he risk a life of debauched cruising or attempt to repress his desires? These choices are up to you, and lead to various different endings.

The story was designed to allow the player to switch between two "worlds": his closeted married straight world, and his secret gay double life. Choices made in the game would influence the direction of the story both directly and indirectly via hidden affection and sexuality meters.
Visually, the worlds would incorporate two contrasting comic styles popular in the 60s: a bright cartoony Roy Liechtenstein style for when he inhabits the wholesome straight world, and a dark black & white Tom of Finland style when he inhabits the highly sexualised gay world.

A brief demo was created using Ren'Py (a Python based visual novel engine).
